  Chapter 1

  Steven

D amn this business trip. If it weren’t for my boss saying that it was a must that I had to go, I’d be at home waiting out my heat .

I wasn’t too fond of medications, but seeing that this was an emergency related to my job, I did my research and found out the best medications for my heat were waiting just a few footsteps away from me .

Wrendall Town was a modest little town, but god was it fucking crowded. I had to have bumped into at least a few dozen Omegas and Alphas by now. I made my way over to the small convenience store like a pinball being knocked around in a machine. The cobblestone streets that lined the town were easy to trip on, so I made sure to keep a look out for tricky nooks and corners too .

Once I got to the store’s main entrance, the automatic doors slid open, and I spilled inside. The air out there smelled like every pheromone and testosterone on the face of this earth. Disgusting .

“God, I’m gonna need a shower now,” I said, brushing my arms off. There was no telling what kind of scents were rubbed on to me. The thought alone made me almost puke .

“Can I help you?” the clerk behind the register asked .

“Can you tell me where you sell the heat meds and scent blockers?” I asked her .

She was a Beta with short brown hair cut into a neat bob and coke bottle eyeglasses .

She dipped from the back of her register and led me down a hall to the back where every high quality brand of medication laid .

“Wow, you guys have everything,” I said, gazing across the names of each brand .

“I know, the price reflects that too,” she joked .

We shared in a small chuckle and I picked out what I needed. I was glad to see they even had an organic version of the medicine. More expensive, but money wasn’t an object .

“Thanks,” I looked on her name tag, “Penny, I’ll purchase this .”

We walked back to the front of the store, and on the way there we went through a small throng of three Alphas. I gave them the death glare and they moved out the way, but it didn’t stop one from acting out .

“Damn baby, put that shit down, you smell so fine,” one whistled .

“Sure you want medicine for that tangy heat?” another one groaned .

  Gross.

“Touch me,” I said walking, “and I’ll make sure you’ll feel heat alright. This knot will make you want it all week long, baby !”

I flicked out my claws, being a cat shifter and all, and they went on their merry way .

  “Feisty too, damn .”

Penny rang up my two items and I paid the hefty amount of fifty-five dollars. Expensive, yet necessary. I didn’t think I’d ever see the day I’d need this. But now that I got to see just how many Alphas were truly around, I knew this was a more than perfect investment .

“You’re lucky to be a Beta, Penny,” I said, taking my small white plastic bag. I hung it off my wrist, so I had my hands free to order my Uber .

“It is what it is, I’d be happy any way I was .”

“Believe me, you do not want to be an Omega,” I sighed .

Penny shook her head and then lights sparkled in her brown eyes. “Yes I do! You guys have fated mates and wonderful sex .”

I frowned. “I don’t know about that. I don’t want some dirty drooling Alpha sniffing over me like I’m a piece of meat. But hey, to each their own. Hope to see you again before I leave in a few days, Penny .”

“You too!” she said, waving .

I walked out of the store at a leisurely stroll, my hotel room at the famous Omega Lodge Inn was due for check in, in about an hour. So I sat out on the small white chairs in front of the store and fiddled around on my Uber app .

There was another Beta next to me, playing on her phone. I pressed the order button for my address and waited for a confirmation text .

Curiosity played on my mind when I saw the huge crowds of Omegas and Alphas with wandering eyes in front of me .

Tapping her shoulder, the Beta looked up and brushed her hair back behind her ear .

“Sorry to disturb you and your game, but what’s with all the Alphas and Omegas running around? I smell a lot of — ”

  “Sex?”

That rattled my nerves. “Excuse me, what ?”

She giggled, covering her mouth with her pale petite hand. “It’s heat season here in Wrendall Town. A lot of people in this region, well, Omegas, experience their heat around the same time. So they come here where they know there’s a huge influx of Alphas. Some think that they’ll find their fated mates too!” she chimed with as much sparkle in her eyes as Penny .

Betas must’ve been into the whole Alpha and Omega pairing up thing .

“Sex, sex all through the air,” she sang .

“O-okay, so mating season. Huh. Well, here’s one less Omega they’ve got to worry about,” I said, taking out a pill from the heat blocking medication box .

The other was a spray to keep my scent from lingering in Alphas’ noses .

Especially the dreaded fated mate .

Nope, didn’t want to chance meeting him. I didn’t want one, I didn’t need one. Not this Omega right here. I was fine and dandy without him. Independence was my motto .

Everyone thought that Omegas had to get a mate and push out a shit ton of kids .

  No, just no .

“Are you okay?” the beta girl asked, “you don’t look happy .”

“I’m fine.” I waved my hand to dismiss any doubts .

Just when I thought shit couldn’t get any more delirious, some Omega runs past me stark fucking nude. He was laughing like an idiot with three Alphas on the chase after him .

The Beta next to me saw it too and threw up her hands to her cheeks. “Ohh !”

“Ewww, what on earth is that Omega thinking?” I complained .

“He’s trying to get himself the best mating ever,” the Beta said under a herd of giggles. “They’re technically not allowed to get that wild here, but hey, it’s a wild world .”

Another Omega walked up to me, he had an odd scent, like the cologne Opium .

  “Is
that supposed to be clothes you’re wearing?” I asked, backing up into my seat. Not like I could keep going too far back .

“Could you tie this?” he asked, turning around .

The Beta beside me had her jaw all the way through the ground .

He was wearing a corset with a whip around his hips and tight leather pants .

I was frozen in shock .

The Beta girl next to me noticed I didn’t budge. “Here, I got you,” she said, moving over to tie his lace in the back. With a final tug, she said, “There you go. All ready to go !”

He turned around and smiled. “Thank you, I just met my fated mate and wanted to surprise him .”

“I bet you will,” I added in. He did wear his risky outfit very well .

  “Yeah!” the Beta agreed .

“But you know, make sure he does the same for you. An Omega doesn’t have to do all the work, you know.” I wagged my finger, and he smiled. Poor thing, he wasn’t listening to a damn word. He was just going to bend over for that big stinky Alpha like most Omegas did. Damn. He was a good looking Omega too. Could do wonders with a sense of independence .

He walked off with a walk like a model. Omegas went to extreme lengths for their mates…huh .

What was the big deal ?

My hand vibrated, and I looked down, expecting to see a time and description of my Uber driver. Instead. What I saw was …

“Fuck! No Ubers?” I shouted .

I practically lived off of them. I hated driving. Nor did I even own a car .

I especially didn’t trust the taxis in local areas since I knew they’d overprice what they deemed as tourists .

“Oh, yeah, they don’t come here during heat week .”

“Really? Goddamn it.” I slapped my thighs and bent over to my knees. Looking up, I asked the Beta, “Do you know what direction the Omega Lodge Inn is ?”

She giggled. That wasn’t a good sign .

“Just a second, what’s with all the giggling?” I asked, leaning in to hear her explanation .

“There’s gonna be a lot of fun there too. That’s where a lot of the Omegas and Alphas are that are on the streets here.” She pointed to the way of the hotel. “But up there? The Alpha who runs it is pretty strict and keep things pretty calm .”

“Huh, well that’s good. Is that why they’re all down here looking all out of sorts ?”

She nodded her head with zest. “Exactly !”

I sighed and dipped back into the store .

Penny looked up and smiled. “Back so soon ?”

“Yep, I was eying that tazer behind you from earlier, can I buy it ?”

Her face went sullen, and she pouted. “Oh I wish I could!” she cried. “But the law says we’re not allowed to sell self-defense items during heat week. I could go to prison, or else I so totally would!” She clenched her little off white apron .

“Damn, they want Omegas to be unprepared don’t they?” I asked looking out the door .

“Well, the Alpha of this town is really strict, he doesn’t play when other Alphas step out of line,” she said, her sad face now beaming with life .

Huh, weird. Strict? That sounded familiar .

“Is it the same Alpha that owns the Omega Lodge Inn ?”

“Yep! He’s the best Alpha ever!” she praised .

I’d see and be the judge of that. “Well, that’s good to know. I better find my way up to the Lodge then, I was waiting for my Uber, but they’re not running this week .”

“Okay then, good luck! Stop by again.” Penny’s voice was a happy soft whisper that sounded like a breeze in the wind .

  “I will !”

It was nice hearing such a down-to-earth voice. Now I had to go outside and hear a bunch of Alpha’s breathing deeply down my neck as if my scent were edible .

  Urgh.

I exited the shop and waved goodbye to the other Beta female who was being picked up by her Omega friend .

“Have fun around here!” she said, getting into her friend’s convertible .

  “No way!” I laughed .

They sped off, and I looked up walking directions to the Omega Lodge Inn. It was checkin time and I was beat. The meeting for my job wasn’t until tomorrow, so I had a lot of time for a cat nap. Many cat naps .

My GPS led me up a path where I began to see four huge buildings. They almost looked like castles. I careened my head up to look at them as I got closer. I had remembered seeing these when I came in on the train, but didn’t know that this was the hotel. Sure enough the signs made it obvious. Where was my head ?

There were a lot of people in the courtyard, and I couldn’t tell exactly what was happening. Alphas were eying down and sniffing at the Omegas on the other side of the grass that were putting themselves on display. Some took the risk to jog on over and pick up a more than willing Omega .

They draped themselves over the Alpha and smiled like devils as they were taken away. Some of the Alphas turned my direction and cocked their heads to the side .

“That’s right, fuckers, no scents for you idiots,” I hissed under my breath .

I followed the path that lead to the Omega Lodge Inn check in office and noticed that things weren’t quite normal …

What the hell was going on now ?

  Chapter 2

  Drake

“T his is the most lucrative season ever. Is it not?” Tom bemused, looking over our profits .

I loved when I made money, naturally, but there was one thing I didn’t like about this particular season. It led to disorderly conduct. Omegas and Alphas would act too out of sorts. I didn’t run a five star facility to watch it become a brothel for one week out of the month .

I had just come back from a two-week adventure with other packs to form and alliance and I already felt the trouble of young virgin Omega heats prickle my skin .

“Not after all the special cleaning and disinfecting I’ll have to spend on when the week is over,” I grunted, calculating the worst scenario .

Beds would have to be replaced, and the covers and sheets that came with it. Not mentioning the special deodorizer I had to use that cost a fortune .

“Don’t be so down, you’ll still have a hefty amount left over. That little clean up amount is nothing but a mere blip!” he said, relishing in the profits .

“If only I could ban such behavior.” I looked out my window to the garden that expanded before it. Such tranquility. If it weren’t for that garden I’d have packed up all my pack members and moved pronto .

But here I had things many other packs didn’t. Water resources, fruits and vegetables, and more importantly animal stock .

“Ban! That’s a natural phase for us Alphas and Omegas. Don’t ban it.” Tom frowned .

I knew what he meant. He wanted to get in on the action. He never missed out on getting an Omega for the week .

Whatever, he could sow his wild oats .

  Mine were sacred .

And speaking of which, an odd scent blew in through the window .

I had caught small remnants of it, but now it was beginning to become much stronger. My heart quipped up a beat, and I stood to my feet to follow it .

“What are you doing?” Tom asked, kicking his feet up onto my desk. He knew how much I loathed that. But right now I couldn’t give him my full attention. This scent, that faint delectable mix of vanilla and cookie dough .

It wafted around me, causing me to look like a dog pacing back and forth .

“Hey, Drake, are you okay?” he asked again, putting his feet down. He raised an eyebrow and waved a hand in front of my face .

“Not now, Tom. I’m smelling something .”

He jumped to his feet. “It’s not the rogues, is it!” Every muscle in his body tensed .

“No. Settle down, it’s nowhere near that. No malice at all. But indeed new .”

Aiden came busting through the doors, giving Tom a fright. He was a frantic mess with fear pheromones exploding out of him .
/>   “Alpha Gryther! Help! Help!” he cried, melting to his knees .

“Aiden, stand. What ever is the problem?” I asked, helping him to his feet .

He cried more and wiped his tears. “Did an Alpha take advantage of you?” I asked, raising my voice. He knew if he just pointed them out that I’d have my whole crew of Alphas take them out .

Violation of the body wasn’t taken lightly in my town .

“No!” he sobbed. “But they’re everywhere. We can’t stop them !”

Tom patted Aiden on the back and wiped his eyes with a tissue. “Shh, calm down, Aiden. What’s wrong ?”

It amused me to see how Tom brought out his soft side with Aiden .

“The Omegas—the Alphas!” he gasped .

Tom picked Aiden up and sat him on his lap to rock him back to earth .

“I didn’t want to. I tried not to overreact!” Aiden began. “But there’s too many, and it’s all getting out of hand !”

“What’s going on?” Tom asked in a hushed voice .

It tickled me pink. All the times I had asked if they had mated or were mates he’d simply deny. This wasn’t something an Alpha would do for just anybody .

And I envied him for that .

The head Alpha was to get everything first, yet he had more than me at this very moment. He had someone to hold and calm. Someone who listened and responded to his body .

If he keeps denying Aiden, I might have to force those two to mate or else, it’d be the death of me not to see those two officially together .

I sat back in my chair. Maybe standing was too much for Aiden. He came to us as an injured rabbit shifter, but he was stronger than he let on .

“Aiden, speak freely,” I said, leaning back in my chair .

He took a couple gulps of air and straightened himself up .

Tom had a tinge of red across his face .

Standing, Aiden bowed. “I’m sorry to have acted so foolishly. This was a bit too much for me. But this heat’s season was stronger than both Ethan and I anticipated .”
